HIMLUNG EXPEDITION 2024
Mt. Himlung (7,126m) is situated between the border of Nepal and Tibet in north of the Annapurna and Manaslu, located above the hidden Tibetan villageof Phu in the western region of Nepal. Its one of the most popular 7000m peak among the climbers. This peak is not a technically tough as Baruntse (7,129m) or Pomari (7,161m), and riskfactor is also less on Himlung. More over if you are looking forward to climb any 8,000m peak or even Mt. Everest 8,848m, then it’s right step to test yourself to check how you perform in high altitude and your fitness level as well, therefore Himlung stand for a perfect training climbing expedition before attempting any 8000m peak. Also if you have done mountaineering trainings, climbed peaks in Alps, and looking for a challenging climb in the Himalayas, then it’s your prefect choice.

Trip Itinerary
Day 01 – Arrival in Kathmandu [1,350m/4,430ft]
Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by our representative who will assist you with the necessary arrangements. You will then be transferred to your hotel where you can relax and acclimatize to the altitude.
Day 02 – In Kathmandu for official formalities and last minute preparation [1,350m/4,430ft]
This day is dedicated to exploring the vibrant city of Kathmandu. You will visit iconic landmarks such as Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. In the afternoon, our expedition leader will conduct a briefing session and assist you in preparing for the upcoming adventure.
Day 03 – Drive from Kathmandu to Jagat [1,300m/4,265ft]
After an early breakfast in Kathmandu, we embark on a scenic drive to Besisahar. The journey takes approximately 6-7 hours, allowing us to witness the changing landscapes of Nepal. We pass through lush green hills, terraced fields, and small villages, immersing ourselves in the local culture and traditions.
As we approach Jagat, the landscapes become more rugged and dramatic, providing a glimpse of the mountainous terrain ahead. After a trekking duration of 5-6 hours, we reach Jagat, where we conclude this leg of the journey.
Day 04 – Trek to Dharapani [1,860m/6,103ft]
The road from Jagat to Dharapani is characterized by its dramatic landscapes, with towering cliffs, deep gorges, and cascading waterfalls. You will pass through several small villages like Chamche and Tal, where you can stop for refreshments and interact with the friendly locals.
As you approach Dharapani, the terrain becomes greener, with dense forests of pine and rhododendron trees. Dharapani itself is a picturesque village situated at an altitude of around 1,960 meters (6,430 feet). It is the entry point to the Manang district and the gateway to the Annapurna Circuit trek.
Day 05 – Trek to Koto [2,600m/8,531ft]
As you approach Koto, the landscape begins to change, with rocky terrain and barren slopes replacing the dense forests. The sight of towering cliffs and rugged mountain peaks creates a sense of awe and anticipation.
Koto, located at an altitude of approximately 2,600 meters, serves as the gateway to the Nar Phu Valley and the Himlung Expedition route. It is a small village with basic amenities, providing a glimpse into the remote and untouched regions of Nepal.
Upon reaching Koto, you can rest and rejuvenate, preparing yourself for the challenges and adventures that lie ahead. The village offers picturesque views of the surrounding peaks and serves as a starting point for further exploration of the Nar Phu Valley or the ascent towards Himlung Himal.
Day 06 – Trek to Meta [3,625m/11,895ft]
Leaving Koto behind, you begin your ascent towards Dharmasala, also known as Upper Pisang. The trail gradually climbs through dense forests of pine and oak trees, offering glimpses of the Annapurna and Pisang peaks.
As you leave Dharmasala, you enter a rugged and rocky terrain, and the vegetation becomes sparse. The trail winds through narrow paths and steep cliffs, offering mesmerizing views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
To ensure proper acclimatization and adapt to the high altitude, it is essential to take a rest day in Meta. You can spend the day exploring the surroundings, going on short hikes to nearby viewpoints, or simply relaxing and enjoying the serene atmosphere.
Day 07 – Trek to Phu Gaon [4,100m/13,450ft]
Our trek takes us from Meta to the enchanting village of Phu Gaon. This remote village is nestled in a valley and offers a glimpse into the traditional lifestyle and culture of the ethnic groups residing in this region.
Day 08 – Rest and Acclimatization day at Phu Gaon [4,100m/13,450ft]
We spend an extra day in Phu Gaon for acclimatization purposes. Take this opportunity to explore the village, interact with the locals, and witness their unique customs and traditions. You can also embark on short hikes in the surrounding hills for better acclimatization.
Day 09 – Trek to Himlung Base Camp [4,850m/15,913ft]
Today is the day we reach the much-anticipated Himlung Base Camp. The trail leads us through rugged terrains, high mountain passes, and glacial valleys. As we approach the base camp, the panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks become increasingly awe-inspiring.
Day 10 – Rest day at base camp
We spend several days at Himlung Base Camp for further acclimatization and preparation. Our experienced guides will provide essential training sessions on mountaineering techniques and equipment usage. We will also undertake short hikes and practice essential skills required for the climb.
Day 11-24 – Climbing Days
The next few weeks are dedicated to the summit push. We establish higher camps, tackling challenging terrains and negotiating crevasses. As we make our final push to the summit of Himlung Himal, the thrill and excitement reach their peak. Standing at the summit, we are rewarded with awe-inspiring panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks. After celebrating our success, we begin the descent back to the base camp.
Day 25-29 – Depart base camp and trek to Meta [3,625m/11,895ft]
We retrace our steps through Phu Gaon, Meta, Koto, and finally reach Besisahar. From Besisahar, we drive back to Kathmandu, where you can relax, celebrate, and reflect on the incredible journey you have undertaken.
Day 30 – International Departure
With unforgettable memories and a sense of accomplishment, it is time to bid farewell to Nepal. Our team will assist you with airport transfers and ensure a smooth departure.

Trek into Himlung Base Camp
On this Voyage, we will be driving for 8 hours to Besisahar and about another 6-7 hours to Koto the next day and then trek into the hidden valley Nar Phu area. We will be spending an extra day in Phu for acclimatization purpose and to explore the Phu village. Phogaon to Himlung base camp is another a day trek where we properly set up our base camp with all tents and logistics. We will have altogether 15 days to set up higher camps and also achieve the summit. We shall be doing another 5 days of the trek exploring back to Beshishar the same route we went through at the beginning.
High Camps and Climbing Routes
We establish our Base Camp at 4920m on a grassy land and three high camps are required to attempt the summit. Camp I at 5,619m, Camp II at 5,987m and Camp III as the last camp at 6,400m. While our strong team of Sherpa staffs set up various high camps, members have the chance to going up and down for well acclimatization and we attempt summit on a favorable day for everyone. Due to our good strategy and expert logistics support, the success rate to this mountain has been high every year and we use the normal route (west face) to ascent this peak.
Expedition Cost – 2024 and 2025
Our Himlung expedition cost for 2024 and 2025 has been already published on our website. Our expedition cost is reasonably cheaper and affordable however our service quality is one of the best. We provide one Sherpa guide to each two climbers for highest level of safety and to increase the maximum summit success. If any climber wishes to have personal Sherpa guide, it will be provided on some additional cost. The best season to climb Himlung is autumn season, our expedition starts early Oct until 1st week of November.
